About The Artist

portrait of candidoCandido is an artist who works in the printmaking media and photography. His colorful block prints depict architectural subjects with a personal persective added to them. One block print titled, “San Francisco Moma“, illustrates the San Francisco museum of modern art, with its huge round skylight as the focal point of the artwork. Another work “Homage to Vincent“ the silhouette of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam is the basis of the work. There are two people in the image, and one is Candido admiring Vincent Van Gogh, who is positioned in the center of the piece. His block prints are stylized with emphasis on design and the interaction between the architecture and the people contained within the structure.

His approach to the monotype medium is quite different than the block prints. His monotypes are sponteneous. They are reminiscent of abstract expressionism. Sometimes, Candido combines the monotype and block print techniques, thus creating monoprints. He studied the art of monotype in santa fe with master printers Ron Pokrasso and Michael Costello.

Interesting enough, Candido‘s photographs of Native American imagery have a surreal look, with no connection whats so ever to his printmaking imagery. The photographs were taken in different parts of the country You will see images from the Tlingit and Haida from the Pacific Northwest, and the southwest regions are represented by the Navajo, Hopi and Pueblo tribes. These photographs have a dreamy, magical quality to them.

Candido's inspiration to create art occurs most often during his travels. Though he calls Wheat Ridge and Albuquerque home, he may be found meandering to Isla de Mujeres in the Caribbean or San Francisco or Italy. Upon immigrating from Italy to Chicago in 1963, he relocated to Colorado in 1973 along with his family. He can be reached at 303-729-1447 or 505-340-7770 or at eastofeden1939@yahoo.com.
